I've officially been illustrated and turned into a Simpson's character via MTV Liquid Television thanks to my good friend Vashtie Kola. Check out her new site...
Finally a good summertime NY inspired song comes out that has nothing to do with flipping weight or slapping ass (which I don't mind). Dope song, dope video...I tip my hat to Dead Prez. Did notice that Roy Ayers "Sunshine" album cover inspire the video.
Once again lolly gagging on my couch the other morning INXS "Devil Inside" video popped up. It was total memory food for myself. I can remember in '87 when "Need You Tonight" dropped. They had crazy steez, Australian and lead by front man Michael Hutchence. This dude was taking down the best of the best at the time, Elle MacPherson, Helena Christensen and Belinda Carlisle. Now this not might sound like much to you youngin's but this was prime ass in the 80's. Regardless this song will always bring me back to when it was ok to put on Hot 97.1(when it was a dance station) and switch over to Kiss 98.7(when they played hip-hop) and check for the new EPMD or Eric B. and Rakim....In 1997 Michael committed suicide and was one of the last real frontman for a band...These kids know nothing about swagger...
Yesterday was a big day in adulthood and being culturally schooled in the Armenian christian world. A while back my best friend husband/wife duo Vaz/Michelle asked me to be the godfather of their baby girl Melania aka Melly Melle. In a scene that was straight out of Conan the Barbarian or Eyes Wide Shut depending on your take or actually my take on things, I was asked to wear a traditional robe for the ceremony. 30 minutes later and a splash of water...done. A speech and a few threats from Vaz's family insuring that I won't be a deadbeat godpops...it was all good.
I know I'm not the only one that walks around singing random lyrics to themselves while aimlessly walking the streets. Here is what I've been singing to myself in my head and under my breathe for the last couple of weeks. No rhyme, just reason.
Shot Mr. Brent Rollins not too long ago and re-discovered how dope lower Manhattan is. If your not familiar who this man is, he is to graphic design what James Brown is to hip-hop. Basically his shit has been jacked to death. Boyz N Hood, Mo' Betta Blues, Ego Trip all these logo's have been designed by this man...peace.
Portrait: Rafael Rios Inspired by the Ollie Magazine mini-ramp shoot from a few months ago. Mr. Ty Lyons put the bug in my ear to build one strictly for Supreme crew and family. I agreed. A couple of months pass and poof! Another one for the books...
Snatched up from Mens.Style.Com...Junya keeps killing it, Adam Kimmel visit's a rodeo, I need to step up my Armani suit game, Kim Jones breathes life into Dunhill, and Lanvin does a nice interpretation of a electric blue suit channeling David Bowie circa 1982....
Was blessed by a surprise visit by my friend from the Northwest James Arizumi aka the dude that designs the Nike SB's on your feet. Took him and his wifey for brunch in Harlem. Always like out of towners that don't flinch at coming uptown. Eggs, french toast, turkey sausage(pause) and cheese grits....catch you on the rebound...
