I was recently lent a copy of The Basketball Diaries by Jim Carroll. My honest knowledge about Jim was only as as deep as the movie that was released back in 1995. When the movie dropped Leonardo D had a squeeky clean image..it was cool seeing him playing a young Jim Carroll as a young druggie basketball phenom growing up in NYC during the 60's. Over the years I have learned that the story never changes just the characters do. In typical fashion the book is superior to the movie. Go read it...
